Donald L. Mong is a highly experienced Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, Private Investigator, Forensic Photographer and Certified Master Diving Instructor. He is a 22 year Veteran Police Officer with 15 years of experience as a Traffic Officer. He has investigated over 2,000 traffic accidents, including many fatalities and serious injuries involving automobiles, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. He has a degree in Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University and teaches courses in motorcycle, pedestrian and vehicle accident reconstruction at the University of Rhode Island. Det. Mong spent ten years as a Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy Traffic Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Instructor. He has been qualified and testified as an expert witness in Rhode Island Superior Court and Vermont District Court for cases involving motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and motorcycles. He has assisted multiple jurisdictions with investigations involving fatalities, serious injuries and police collisions. Det. Mong has conducted extensive hands-on research and training in traffic accident reconstruction, including conducting over 20 low, medium, and high-speed crash tests. As a police underwater diver and Police Diving Instructor, he trained Police Officers in evidence and body recovery. He was a Forensic Photographer for the EgyptAir Flight 990 crash off Martha’s Vineyard in 1999. He has been a member of the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialist Inc. and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Director, Traffic Accident Reconstructions & Investigations, Materials Science Associates, LLC, North Kingstown, RI (August 2013 – Present).  Head of traffic accident reconstructions, responsible for division dedicated to accidents investigations involving motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles.

Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, Don Mong Investigations, East Greenwich, RI (2009-2014).  Provided accident investigations and reports for cases involving motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles for insurance companies, law firms and government entities.  Provided private investigation services.

Traffic Officer, East Greenwich Police Department, East Greenwich, RI 02818 (1987-2009).  Provided accident investigations and reports for cases involving motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles and investigated approximately 2000 motor vehicle pedestrian accidents.  Responsible for enforcement of RI Motor Vehicle Code including parking and traffic control problems, school bus and school zone safety, and any other issue involving motor vehicles.

Director of Diving Operations and Certified Master Diving Instructor, Alpine Ski and Sports, Warwick, RI (1983-1987).  Managed diving instructors.

Staff Sergeant (E-6) and Combat Engineer, US Army (1975-1982).  As an army diver, specialized in river (backwater) recovery and fording operations for armored cavalry units and conducting clearing operations including obstacle and bridge demolition.
